A Comment about The Maine Spirit Blog

Historians and horse lovers owe a great debt of gratitude to Stephen Thompson for his thorough and fascinating survey of Maine’s tie to the magnificent beast that, in both work and sport, was a principal means of tying this vast state together in the long era before the automobile. Water Village, my history of Waterville, only touches on the horse, most particularly the astonishing creature named Nelson. Thompson’s work reveals the full tale of the impact of these beloved animals in this area, and in celebration of the horse, future generations will be grateful to know a story that otherwise might have been lost in the mists of time. -- Earl Smith, Dean of College, Emeritus, Colby College

Our Gifts from Past Generations -- The Photograph Albums of Elsie Thompson Hamilton, the Wife of George Hamilton

This post is a pictorial slice of the Thompson (Hamilton) families of Kingfield and Limestone, Maine. The story is told that Solomon Thompson of Kingfield, Maine journeyed to Limestone in 1875. These images and others are posted on the blog, Limestone, Maine -- My Hometown. The link to this site is located in the right hand column of the Maine Spirit website. I am thankful that Elsie Thompson Hamilton maintained two photo albums: 1. Album One prior to her marriage and 2. Album Two after she was married. My thanks to her son, John Irwin for sharing the albums for scanning.

Hopefully, others who read and view this post may be motivated to locate their family photos for review and duplication.
